The Augustana Vikings beat Clayton State Lakers 81-68 at Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio, Texas Tuesday to advance to the Division II Final Four.
Clayton State, previously undefeated this season and the number one seed in the tournament, couldn’t overcome the lead ran up by the Vikings in the second half.
Clayton started out with a 9-3 lead in the first half. The Vikings and Lakers would switch the upper hand back and forth, but Augustana kept the 32-25 lead going into halftime and never gave it back.
Their lead after halftime reached a high of 24 and a low of 7.
The Vikings had a 52.8 percent success rate for field goals, 58.8 percent for three pointers, and an even higher 78.9 percent at the foul line.
Clayton State’s field goal shooting was 32.5 percent, only a 27.3 percent for three pointers, and 48 percent for free throws.
Shaunteva Ashley, a sophomore at Augustana, had the team’s most points at 17 along with eight assists, while senior Faith Tinklenburg added 15 points and eight rebounds. Alex Feeney had 14 points, Emily Schulte with 11, and Cami Koehn had 10.
Drameka Griggs, a senior at Clayton State, was the leading scorer for the Lakers with 22 points.
The Vikings will face the Dowling Golden Lions of Oakdale, NY (29-3) with tip-off at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27.
Dowling upset Colorado Mesa University 60-44 to advance to the Final Four. The Golden Lions are ranked tenth by the NCAA USA Today Coaches.
Augustana students can watch the Final Four match up in the 3-in-1 room at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. A viewing party will also be held at the Louise Avenue Buffalo Wild Wings.
