Therapy dogs to offer students relief during finals week at library

During finals week, students find many ways to relieve stress. Exercise, naps or food are just a few options. A little known option is coming to the Mikkelsen Library during finals week, however.

Therapy dogs.

“Many Augie students have pets at home that they especially miss during stressful times like finals,” circulation and reference librarian Jan Brue Enright said. “We have offered cocoa, coffee and granola bars in the library during finals for many years, and this seems like another option to help students cope with this time of year. Plus, we love dogs!”

Ten-minute cuddling and petting sessions are available from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, Friday, Dec. 14, and Monday, Dec. 17.

“Judy Schreck came to us with the idea this fall,” Enright said. “Her two dogs are licensed to visit schools, hospitals, nursing homes and day cares.”

Students can sign up at the front desk of the library or call for reservations.
