At 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, Augustana’s spirit squad will perform at the Minnesota Timberwolves game at Target Center located in downtown Minneapolis, Minn. The spirit squad will be allotted seven minutes of performance time during half-time of the game.

“I am so stoked to dance at the game,” junior Corrine Fritcher said. “It’s a new and exciting opportunity to push our skills and create a fun performance. The girls on the team are amazing, so traveling together and bonding time will be a hoot.”

The spirit squad is made up of the Augustana cheerleading and dance teams.

“The spirit squad could not be any more excited about this experience,” senior Kirsten Nyberg said. “This is the first time Augustana’s cheerleading and dance teams will participate in a professional sporting event. We are very excited to travel up to Minneapolis and show off what we have spent numerous hours working on and our Viking pride.”

Coach Becky Parks, who is a 2009 graduate, leads the Augustana spirit squad. Parks has been coaching high school cheer and dance for the last three years. She was a dance team coach at Canton High School, and a cheer team advisor at Tea Area and at Washington High School. At Washington High School, Parks’ team won the Spirit of Six Award.

“The Spirit Squad is very excited about the opportunity to perform at a professional game,” senior Courtney Williams said. “How often does something like this come around for a D-II, liberal arts school spirit squad? In my three years on the team, we have never traveled to perform at a professional game, which makes this opportunity all the more special.”

Tickets for the game, which will be played against the Dallas Mavericks, are currently available on the Timberwolves website. The game will also be broadcast on Fox Sports North.
