Joshua 1:9: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
This Bible verse has given me peace through many ups and downs in my life. When I was a senior in high school, my dad was deployed for the second time (it was the fourth deployment for my whole family), and I kept this verse close to my heart.
Without having my dad there to watch my cross country and track meets or watch me cheerlead at the Dome, my senior year was very rough emotionally. But I knew time would fly as long as I kept busy.
I not only have Joshua 1:9 on a dog tag that he gave me; I also have it tattooed on my foot along with something that my mother drew. Whenever I look down at that drawing I remember everything I went through and how those experiences helped to shape me into the person I am now.
Joshua 1:9 means doing something that is out of your comfort zone and putting your faith in God where it belongs. It might be scary and something you would never expect yourself to do, but in the end, the benefits might reward you greatly.
Now, don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t mean to go out and do something crazy and absurd, but if you aren’t happy, I hope this verse helps give you the strength and courage to change that.
When I decided to be done with college sports, it was a very difficult decision, because I have been an athlete since I was in third grade and this meant quitting something I have known so well and that was step outside my comfort zone.
But I found my niche in other aspects of my college career. I found student organizations, volunteer projects and babysit for great families. Now that I have gone through life changing experiences I see where this verse is more apparent.
I truly believe that putting my faith in God and allowing myself to experience new adventures has led me to be a stronger more well-rounded person and I only hope it does the same for you.
