After a 3-1 start featuring three blowout victories and an unfortunate loss against a top-five team, Augustana football heads east  to battle the undefeated Upper Iowa Peacocks this weekend.

The matchup pits a pair of teams bouncing back from unspectacular 2013 campaigns. Augsustana went 4-7 last season, and, while Upper Iowa finished 6-5, the Peacocks ended their season with an embarrassing 73-7 home loss to Minnesota-State Mankato.

Both teams sports prolific offense, but Augustana’s early-season defensive performance has undoubtedly been more impressive. The Vikings have pitched a pair of shutouts and allowed just 317 yards per game.

Upper Iowa, in comparison, has allowed its oppenents 495 yards and 25 points per contest.

“This Upper Iowa game is coming at a great time for us,” head coach Jerry Olszewski said. “They’re going to challenge us in ways we haven’t been challenged. I think we’ve played a little tougher schedule than them, but at the same time, it doesn’t matter. Any given Saturday, you’ve got to show up or shut up.”

If Augustana manages a victory this weekend, an absolute showdown with USF, who is currently 4-0, will be in store for Oct. 10.
