The Elmen Center hosted Augustana basketball fans on Saturday for Basketball Madness, previously known as Midnight Madness.

The night began with free food from Erbert and Gerbert’s Sandwich Shop for the crowd and a shoot-around for kids and the Augustana Viking basketball teams.

Next, a 15-minute game between some Augustana staff and faculty and the Augieholics kept the night going. The staff and faculty won out with a final score 20-16.

A dance-off between the men’s team and the Augieholics brought hollers from the fans. The men’s team chose a mash-up of popularized dances from “The Bernie” to the “Stanky Legg” while the Augieholics went with the dance-of-the-moment “Gangnam Style.”

The night showcased both the men’s and women’s basketball teams during two separate 20-minute scrimmages.

The women went first, white versus blue, with a white team victory 23-18.

In between the scrimmages, a few lucky attendees tested their basketball skills in a shoot-off. The final two competitors were seniors Joe Meader and Joran Clute. Clute won with a three-point shot as the buzzer went off.

The men’s scrimmage followed with a gold team victory, 23-15, over navy.

The evening ended with  Brennan Olson winning the  men’s team dunk-contest and then the Schoeneman’s Shootout for fans, but no one was able to make the $1,000 half-court shot.

Master of Ceremonies, men’s head coach, Tom Billeter was disappointed but hinted at a $2,000 shot for next year.
